Step 1: Finish an Associate/Role-Based Certification
  • Why: To build a foundation in your chosen Microsoft role.
  • How: Explore the latest certifications by visiting the official Microsoft certification page.
  • Note: The certification list will be updated often by Microsoft. For up-to-date information, refer to the official Associate & Expert Level Certification List.

Step 2: Select an Authorized Training Institution

  • Aim: Choose a Microsoft Authorized Organization or Institution for Instructional Skills training.
  • Considerations:
    1. Budget: Obtain quotes from multiple institutes and select one that fits your budget.
    2. Region: make sure the institute’s certification is globally recognized.
    3. Language: Choose an institution that offers instruction in a language that suits you.
  • Note: As available options change, refer to the official Institution Link for the latest authorized providers.
Step 3: Decide Training Duration & Mode
  • Duration: Training typically lasts 1 to 3 days, depending on the institution.
  • Mode: Most training is available online.
  • Curriculum: Training covers MCT roles and responsibilities, tools, training methodologies, and pre/post-training procedures.

Step 4: Assessment

  • Preparation: Prepare a PowerPoint presentation based on your role-based certification. Deliver a session to MCT trainers on a scheduled date.
  • Outcome: Assessment results are typically announced within 3 to 7 days.

Step 5: Result Handling

  • If Failed: Retake the assessment.
  • If Passed: Enroll in the MCT tool with your assessment date and institute name.

Step 6: MCT Enrollment

  • Process: After your institution submits results to Microsoft, you will get your MCT successful completion email. This will happen in 4 to 7 days. In some cases, it takes up to 15 to 30 days.
  • MCT Enrollment Portal Downtime Until October 1st, 2024: Temporary Workaround
Microsoft has announced that the MCT (Microsoft Certified Trainer) enrollment portal will be down. The downtime will last until October 1st, 2024. During this period, the MCT team has set up a temporary workaround for urgent cases: a video call interview to complete the enrollment process.
The interview will cover the same content as the standard enrollment procedure, including validation of your Associate or Expert level certifications, the name of your instructional skills provider, and the date of your instructional skills training.
Once the enrollment tool is back online, the process will revert to the usual online enrollment procedure. I hope that no significant changes will be introduced in the updated enrolment tool, but I’ll keep you posted if there are any updates to the process.
Let’s wait and see how things unfold.

Renewal Criteria

  • Need: Conduct a training session and update metrics in the Matter Tool.
